When it comes to hair extensions, everybody has their opinions. Many people have these beliefs from that one friend who had a friend who had a bad experience with their extensions.
There are plenty of myths out there that have been scaring people away from extensions for ages, and many of them are not true or are easily avoidable if proper care is taken and the extensions are put in by somebody that has experience and knows what they are doing.
So now I will debunk five common hair extension myths and misconceptions that countless people still believe to be true.
Myth One: Hair Extensions Will Damage My Natural Hair
This is probably one of the most common hair extension myths out there. Hair extensions will NOT damage your hair as long as you have the right products. If you are new to hair extensions, make sure you do your research. Find out which type of extension will be best for your natural hair. This can be glue-in, tape-in, clip-in, or sew-in. Only get your extensions installed by a professional. Do not let somebody touch your hair if they don’t know what they’re doing. As long as you have the right materials and the right person installing your extensions, you will not damage your natural hair.
Myth Two: Hair Extensions Will Stop You from Being Fit
Hair extensions will not stop your work out routine. Extensions are like your regular hair; they will not come apart with normal exercise. Just as you would with your natural hair, pick an appropriate hairstyle for being active. Myth Three: Hair Extensions Are Difficult to Maintain
Hair extensions require some special maintenance, but it is not difficult. Again, do your research. Find out which products, oils, and brushes are going to help you most with the type of extensions you have. Once you learn from experience what works and what does not work, you’ll be able to take care of your extensions so they look good for as long as possible.
Myth Four: Hair Extensions Look Fake
Your extensions will look great as long as they are done properly. This sounds repetitive, but make sure that your products are put in by a professional. Get the products that will work for your natural hair type. Buy the right color and texture that will blend in seamlessly you’re your natural hair. Remember, your extensions are an investment. Take care of them. Keep up with the necessary maintenance that will make sure they are properly moisturized and protected to ensure that they will look like what they were meant to look like: hair.
Myth Five: Hair Extensions Are Painful and Uncomfortable
You need to get used to extensions. Of course, you are adding some more weight to your head so it may feel heavier at first, but they should not be painful at all or uncomfortable in the long run. If they are, then they are either the wrong extensions for you or they were not properly installed. Make sure that you are going to a professional who is trained in installing hair extensions for proper installation.
Hair extensions can be scary, but they really should not be. There are many misconceptions and myths like those mentioned above, but many of them are either entirely untrue or are easily preventable. I hope that this helps ease some of your worries regarding hair extensions.
